The fashion forecast began with the analysis of current social trends. Because Millennials are currently the generation with the most buying power, they became the focus. Millennials are known to prefer experiences over goods and love travel. The forecast then turned into a vacation collection centered around the population destination of Dubai. Runway and street style trends influenced silhouettes and details while weather determined fabrications and practicality. Flowwy, loose-fitting silhouettes allowed for ease of travel in comfort and style. We looked at the city of Dubai for color inspiration and found bright, richly pigmented colors dominating the city. This forecast captured the laid-back luxury of a Millennial vacation.
Using basic principles to identify, track and analyze current trends, students will develop a fashion forecast. Demographic, economic, social and historical forces of behavior will be evaluated.
TLC is network known for home and lifestyle programs. One of the most notable shows on the network is Say Yes to the Dress. The original is located in New York and the spin off is located in Atlanta. Both of these shows focus on a more traditional bridal and wedding experience and are not fully representative of the modern bride. We decided to stick with the network's bread and butter while taking a contemporary approach. Step into Something New is more about individualism and finding wedding attire that is uniquely them. It opens the network to a new market segment and harnesses the star power of the West Coast. We found a wedding boutique that specializes non-traditional wedding attire and had a plan to have Miley Cyrus on the premier who, at the time, was one of the most anticipated weddings with a large fan following.
Create a brand extension for TLC's Say Yes to the Dress to harness a new audience for the network while keeping true to the values of its programming.
Fashion Revolution week is a week dedicated to taking an honest look at the fashion industry and striving to solve its problems. This includes factory conditions, fabric waste, and pollution. To spread awareness we decided to tackle the week in two main parts- education and competition. We would have a screening of a documentary detailing the pollution and waste generated by the fashion industry as well as a panel to have a Q&A and shed further light on the topic. We would also have a week long competition of reconstruction of old garments to show how fun and easy it is to refresh a wardrobe without buying fast fashion. We decided to get donations from people that attended the event on Monday and have a showcase of the reworked garments on Friday. The goal is to promote awareness and provide solutions.
Create a proposal for VCU to celebrate Fashion Revolution day for the upcoming semester. Include a social media campaign, press release, and plan for the fashion department to celebrate.
Because the topic was so broad I decided to do a little bit of a deep dive into something we don't talk about as much in the fashion department: shoes. I have always been very into footwear and that is what originally got me into fashion. When thinking about footwear, Christian Louboutin is top of mind. This got me thinking about the evolution of the high heel which of course brings Salvatore Ferragamo into the conversation because he was the first footwear designer to make a name for himself. To round of the list I thought of pop culture references and immediately Sex and the City. One of the lines I always remembered from the show was Carrie screaming "I lost my Choo!" as she missed her fiery to Staten Island. These footwear designers were iconic and, for me, some of the most important people in fashion making it the obvious choice for an important topic in the fashion industry.
Write a paper on an important topic in fashion. Discuss major trends and their impact on the industry today.
I have worked retail my entire working career. I have learned how to spot trends and how to read people in order to find what they actually want. This paper turned out to be the reasoning behind everything I was doing as a retail worker. I started to realize why it was that I talked to customers in a certain way, why our shipment was scheduled the way it was, why I was getting a certain amount of hours and how our pricing model works. Both the paper and my experience played off each other and allowed me to excel in both areas.
Write a paper on the past, present, and future of the retail industry. Include the history of retailing, models of distribution, state of the economy, consumer spending, and the overall financial picture
In order to understand the market Richmond hotels are operating in, we conducted research of surrounding hotels and the hospitality industry across the country. From there we found trends, strengths, and weaknesses of the hotel that gave us the ability to create our own survey for the Jefferson's target segment. Because our survey was non-probability we were not able to make recommendations based on those findings but we were able to make recommendations based on our secondary research and gave these suggestions to the hotel marketing team.
The senior management of The Jefferson is engaging in a search, through a Request for Proposal process (RFP), for a marketing consulting company/agency to assist the hotel with successfully achieving two strategic initiatives, perceived as critical to the long-term success of the business:
I. Maintain and strengthen the hotel’s position to the existing customer base, with demographic details provided during the review
II. Broaden the demographic base of business
Being a Louisville Cardinal fan for seemingly no reason, I know a lot about the city of Louisville, KY. I don't know how or why is happened but my fascination with the basketball team extended to the University of Louisville, to the city of Louisville, and finally, it's famous residents. One of the most famous Louisville residents is Muhammad Ali. After watching the What's My Name documentary on Muhammad Ali, it's easy to see how captivating he was. Not only was he one of the greatest, if not the greatest, boxer of all time, he was also very conscious of the world around him and the impact he had the ability to make. One of Muhammad Ali's most famous quotes is "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" so it only seemed right to render a bee to showcase my Illustrator work. I began with a drawing of a bee which I then drew again on Illustrator.
Render anything using Adobe Illustrator. The world is your oyster.
After thinking about the Muhammad Ali documentary and rendering a bee in Illustrator, I decided I could take it a step further and create a 3D rendering of the same bee. I looked at it in parts and how to create each portion of the bee. I began with body, head, then antennas and wings. Unfortunately, because of the file type it is not able to be downloaded.
Create a 3D rendering of anything.
I began with the background color to match my website, then moved to the accent pieces so it would all flow visually. I picked a font family that would work well with the current fonts I have on this website and then programed my social media links at the bottom. I finished with text that gave content but not to overwhelm the page.
Code a page of a website that includes content, images, and social media links
